Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has taken a property on rent in Mumbai’s upscale Pali Hill area for a monthly rent of ₹8 lakh, according to property registration documents accessed by Zapkey. The leave and license agreement indicates that Johar has secured the property for three years, with rent set to increase annually. In the second year, the rent will rise to ₹8.50 lakh per month, and by the third year, it will reach ₹8.93 lakh per month. The agreement was officially registered on August 23, 2024.
The property in question occupies the second and third floors of a building called 21 Union Park, located in the Khar West area of Pali Hill. This new rental adds to Johar's extensive real estate portfolio, which includes both residential and commercial properties in Mumbai.
Earlier this year, Johar leased out a property to Bollywood actor Imran Khan and his girlfriend, Lekha Washington. The couple took a three-storey flat in Bandra's Clefepete area from Johar at a monthly rent of ₹9 lakh. The agreement, registered on March 20, 2024, included a security deposit of ₹27 lakh.
In 2021, Johar's company, Dharma Productions, renewed leases on two commercial properties in Andheri West. The rental agreements, as per registration documents, showed that Johar collected monthly rents of ₹17.56 lakh and ₹6.15 lakh, respectively, from these properties.
As Mumbai continues to be a hotspot for celebrity real estate deals, Karan Johar's latest rental venture adds to the growing list of high-profile property transactions in the city.
