Shah Rukh Khan’s Iconic Mannat Bungalow: Plans to Add Two More Floors Discussed by Maharashtra Authority

The famed Mannat bungalow, home to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is once again in the limelight. Gauri Khan, celebrated interior designer and wife of Shah Rukh Khan, has submitted an application to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA), seeking approval to add two additional floors to the six-storey annexe behind the family’s sea-facing heritage residence in Bandra, Mumbai.

MCZMA’s Recent Deliberations

On December 11, a committee headed by Principal Secretary (Environment) Pravin Darade convened to discuss the application. According to officials, the proposal, which aims to add a seventh and eighth floor to the existing annexe, was presented by the Khans’ consultant during the meeting. Feedback was provided, and the proposal will undergo further review in the next session, pending additional details from the consultant.

A senior MCZMA official, who requested anonymity, described the proposal as “a routine process of adding extra area to the bungalow.” The committee emphasized the need for more information to proceed with the approval.

Project Details

Per the application filed on November 9, the Khans plan to expand the annexe by 616.02 sq. meters, bringing a significant enhancement to their already luxurious living quarters. The project’s estimated cost stands at a staggering ₹25 crore.

Currently, the Mannat annexe comprises two basement levels, a ground floor, and six additional floors. The expansion would create a seven-storey and eight-storey structure, increasing the grandeur of one of Mumbai’s most recognized landmarks.

Heritage and Modernity

Mannat’s main building is a colonial-style 1914 Grade III heritage property, built on a sprawling 2091.38 sq. meter plot. The annexe, a modern six-storey structure, serves as the primary living space for the Khan family. Despite its heritage status, the property has seamlessly incorporated modern architectural elements, making it a blend of old-world charm and contemporary luxury.

What’s Next?

While the MCZMA deliberates on the proposal, the spotlight remains firmly on Mannat. This latest development adds another chapter to the iconic residence’s storied history, reflecting the Khan family’s continual efforts to enhance their home.

Stay tuned for updates as the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority revisits the proposal in its forthcoming meetings.
